kernal update and patch (SPAM)

i have two questions with very much of confusion those qustions any one please help me

i had central instance and dialog instance in same box

my questions is:

1)       a)CI and DI difference box then i performed kernel update to CI. is it applicable to DI are again i do update kernel to DI.

          b) if CI and DI difference box then performed kernel update to CI. is it applicable to DI are again i do update kernel to DI

2)     a) CI and DI difference box then i applied patch to to CI. is it applicable to DI are again i do update kernel to DI.

         b) if CI and DI difference box then i applied patch to to CI CI. is it applicable to DI are again i do update kernel to DI
